Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee begins its work on May 9, 2020. It consists of 6 LFA members and its main task is to monitor and control ethics-related issues in the activities of Latvian physiotherapists.

Powers of the Ethics Committee:

  • The LFA Ethics Committee may consider, in compliance with confidentiality, any application and complaint from a natural or legal person on issues related to medical ethics, which relate to the activities of physiotherapists practicing in Latvia and the use of medical technologies used in treatment, and notify interested parties of the results.
  • The LFA Ethics Committee considers applications regarding a professional or deontological dispute involving a physiotherapist, if the reason for the dispute is incorrect behavior, which has brought disrepute or unreasonably harmed the professional prestige of a medical institution or state physicians.
  • The Ethics Committee may review publications or statements and make decisions on compliance with the principles of deontology in these publications.
  • The Ethics Committee may review applications and provide its opinion on conducting research in the field of physiotherapy.
  • The Ethics Committee may review ethical issues related to new medical technologies and make decisions on compliance with ethical principles in these technologies.
  • The Ethics Committee may provide LFA members with advice and recommendations on issues related to medical ethics, as well as advise on the application of regulatory enactments adopted in the field of medical ethics.
